DH and me closed our JC Penney account last summer, balance was $85. DH had this TL prior to our marrying since 12/1/88. Pulled CR and TL shows "Credit Line Closed Consumer Request". But shows a Past Due Bal of $60. Spoke w/3 reps on phone, all confirmed account closed and that they did receive our payments. 2 mos pass and we notice that they have been charging us late fees and overlimit fees by lowering our credit limit to a totally arbitrary amount BELOW the $60 balance!! Our home was at the 45 day mark to foreclosure, thank GOD we had a plan, sold the last of a crappy stock we had and were able to keep our home. Our neighbors and friends know NOTHING, we just told them with the changes in job and income, some things have to go, as far as the Jeep was concerned. We kept our home, furniture, my jewelry, not that I have alot, but I do have a couple of nice things, however, you can't sell or pawn them for squat, which teaches me that I will never spend a dime on another diamond.
Thankfully, our monthly "debts" are low but between childcare, rent, insurance, medical,groceries and utilities etc there isn't a lot each month left over to save.
If you just attempt to bargin in good faith the CA will eat you alive and then spit out your financial future.

It's just difficult sometimes to interpret the laws and to remember everything you read.

I know he may feel like a failure, we all do, we all have our days, but I just can't tell you how much of a change it made.
